Großglockner Hochalpenstraße
This can only be described as an attraction that anyone who visits the holiday region Nationalpark Hohe Tauern (national park High Tauern) simply must have seen. At and altitude ranging between 800 and 2.500 m you will experience vegetation areas normally found in Antarctica. A spectacular view from this over 30.000 m high mountain, and hence Austria's highest, is guaranteed. Various guides along the street explain the alpine flora and fauna as well as the history of this masterpiece of road construction. With patience, and a little luck, you will get to see groundhogs as well as steinbocks in their natural habitat.
Hundstein (2117m)
The Hundstein provides one of the most beautiful views around. Standing on its peak, you will witness over 400 other mountaintops, which make for a truly fantastic vista. In the course of this hike, you can delight in nature. A wide variety of alpine plants, many of which can be used as medicinal herbs, awaits you.
Kitzlochklamm
In the middle of the Salzburger Land (Salzburg's countryside), at the edge of the Nationalpark Hohe Tauern, lies Taxenbach, displaying a unique natural spectacle. Pay a visit to the hermitage, dive into the history of the Kitzlochklamm and discover hidden corners as well as the beauty of nature.
Stauseen Tauernkraftwerk Kaprun
Open between the beginning of May until mid-October. Explore the fascinating power plant group Glockner-Kaprun. Its artificial lakes Wasserfallboden as well as the Moserboden render this compound one of the national landmarks of Austria. Duration of the tour approx. 4 to 5 hours. Guided tours regarding the dam wall are provided hourly.
